Your Blessing Is In Your Seeds

Text: 2 Cor 9:10-11 ESV “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.”

Over the last several weeks I have done something that I never really thought I would ever do. I started a garden! I can’t explain it. After all the years of working in the family gardens as a young man, toiling in the heat and dirt, after vowing to myself that I would not ever willingly inflict such affliction upon myself, I find a spirit driving me to the dirt. It is an unexplainable feeling. It is not mere genetics, although my Dad was a master gardener. This passion, this drive has to be of a spiritual nature. It has to be from God.

I couldn't believe it! I, Ronald Thompson, the hard core anti-gardener, suddenly felt driven to break up the ground! I was excited about preparing the soil! I was anxious to sow my seeds! I planted tomatoes, squash, and peppers from seedlings (Tiny young plants pre-grown for transplanting). But what got me really revved up and what I was most anxious about were the things I planted from seeds. I planted hanover salad, turnip greens, okra, cantaloupes, watermelons and butter beans. I must say that I enjoyed the instant gratification that came with planting the seedlings. I could see right away that the tomatoe plants were alive and well.

Someone had already made sure that they had a successful start.

But there is something special about sowing a seed. It’s a feeling of creation. Since we are created in the image of God, like Him, we are creative beings. He has endowed you and me with a certain potential. We can bring things to life by the simple act of sowing! And it gets better! We are in control of what we sow and what we harvest! And, just so you know, you really do reap what you sow!
