Proper nutrition is vital to the growth and development of children. Less than half of eligible children get free or reduced-price school breakfast. Food insecurity in children has adverse effects on their physical, behavioral and mental health, development, and academic achievement. More than 218,000 children in Virginia face hunger daily. Over 33 million Americans live in homes that experience periods of hunger or food insecurity, 13 million children live in these households. One in 6 people struggle with hunger in the United States.
At Mount Sinai Family Life Christian Center:
• We make sure that families have support when needed
• Give those in need a hand up and not a handout
• Provide a hot meal to families -Over 60 people each month
• Feed the Need sponsors a monthly community Dinner
• Feed the Need sponsors monthly food distribution
We #serve our community in this way on the 3rd Tuesday of every month @ 7pm. The gratitude they express is so incredibly rewarding. With the back drop of our destroyed church facility clearly in our view, we remain #humble, and reminded of how #blessed we truly are, and how much our #community still needs us.
